CULTURE AND KITING IN CAMBODIA & VIETNAM

Highlights

Combine the cultural highlights of these two countries with a kiting vacation. In Cambodia, see the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat and then take a cruise down the Mekong River to see villages and the workings of everyday life in the countryside.

In Vietnam, head to the beaches of Phan Rang (timed to hit the best tides) and enjoy several days of kitesurfing. Afterwards, head north to the dramatic karst landscape and rice paddies of Ninh Bing, where you can take a boat tour, paddling the towering cliffs and through caves, or cycle along rural paths.

Transfer from here to Halong Bay for a 2-night cruise through one of the world's most beautiful cruising destinations. Enjoy kayaking excursions to coves or visit small villages. Afterwards, transfer directly to Hanoi to enjoy a few days of sightseeing before heading home.

3 or 4 week Itinerary

Cambodia

Day 1- 4:  Angkor Wat and Siem Reap

Begin your trip with a visit to one of Southeast Asia's most famous archeological attractions. Set in the jungle near Siem Reap, Angkor Wat is  the crowning achievement of classical Khmer architecture and the largest religious monument in the world. The entire Angkor  Archaeological Park encompasses more than 400 square kilometers and contains the ruins of the  capitals of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries. Some of these are restored or in partial states of reconstruction while others still remain under a tangle of roots and huge trees that have swalled some of the buildings.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site takes at least two days to explore, with different areas offering unique sites.

Base yourself in the comfort of a Small Luxury Hotel of the World in Siem Reap to enjoy the ruins by day and the city attractions by night.

Day 5 - 11: Mekong River Cruise

From here, take a small ship, 7-day luxury cruise across Tonle Sap Lake to the Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, and then down the Mekong River to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon), Vietnam.  Spend a night in the city.

Day 12 to 18: Kitesurfing in Phan Rang

Take a train and vehicle transfer from Ho Chi Minh to Phan Rang for six nights and five days of kitesurfing. Stay at a beachfront hotel and where you can kite in from your accommodation. This is one of Vietnam's best flatwater kiting destinations.  Plan dates with our team to coincide with high tides.

Day 19 to 22: Ninh Binh

Take a transfer to the train station and head to Ninh Binh, one of northern Vietnam's most scenic areas. Surrounded by sheer cliff walls and a valley lined with rice paddies, one of the highlights is a peaceful boat trip down the river and through caves. You can also explore a nature park, cycle through the landscape, or relax around the pool of your luxury hotel.

Day 23 to 25:  Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay Luxury Cruise

Transfer directly from Ninh Binh to the port for a luxury 3-day/2-night cruise through Halong and Lan Ha Bay. Drift past one of the  most scenic areas in all of Southeast Asia and do short excursions to kayak scenic bays or visit small villages.  After your cruise transfer directly to Hanoi.

Day 26 to 27: Hanoi

Spend two days sightseeing in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, before returning home.

NOTE: You can shorten this itinerary by opting for a 4 day cruise down the Mekong, which will involve a flight from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, or cutting the Mekong cruise from the itinerary and flying from Siem Reap to Ho Chi Minh.
