
Michael Law is based near Toronto, Canada, and lives part of the year in the Dominican Reuplic. His travels have taken him around the world but he has traveled extensively through central and western Canada, the Southwest United States, southern Spain, South Africa, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, and the Dominican Republic. Other regions include Costa Rica, Panima, Guatemala, Peru, Colombia, Hong Kong and China, Greece, and more, having to traveled to more than 50 countries.

Michael is passionate about kitesurfing and downhill skiing, regularly frequenting kitesurfing destinations in Brazil and the Dominican Republic, and skiing in the Rocky Mountains. Other interests include, camping, hiking, fishing, wildlife, and wilderness experiences. In 2026 he spent three months in South Africa, including over a month on self-driving safaris in South Africa's national parks and reserves.

Michael has worked as a professional travel writer for over a decade, both as a freelancer crafting stories for a variety of travel publications, and as staff writer for PlanetWare Inc., where he traveled to numerous countries to write destination guides.
He works in collaboration with his wife Lana, who has also worked as a travel writer for over 20 years. They are both members of the North American Snowsports Journalist Association (NASJA) and TMAC (Travel Media Association of Canada). Together, they travel several moths each year to new destinations, often doing deep dives into individual countries with multi-month stays.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree from the University of Manitoba, in his home city of Winnipeg.
